This chix is a freak’n Monster Truck Driver and mechanic from Minnesota! Here is her story, via interview from Trevor!

How/where did you first hear about Fight Chix?
I was at Eminent in Aurora two years back, maybe three, with a couple of friends and she pointed out a couple Fight Chix shirts claiming they were “so me”. She was right, I loved them and got them.

Who and what got you into mechanic work?
I’ve always been around cars and trucks getting worked on, my dads been a mechanic for forever and all my guys friends would be tinkering on a race car or some piece of junk vehicle over the weekends. So I was always surrounded by it, just not really involved, until around 9th grade. In 9th grade I went to the Minneapolis Metrodome with a few friends to a Monster Jam show. I instantly fell in love with the trucks. I always loved racing, and big trucks, and here they were together. It was perfect for me! I knew one day I would drive them. I could feel it. I know that sounds really weird, but there was no question in my mind. I was always intrigued my mechanic work, just never really had put myself out there to truly learn. Knowing that I wanted to drive monster trucks, I wanted to learn them inside and out. Took a course in high school for automotive, which really I got handed the little simple “girl” tasks because the guys already knew what they were doing and they wanted to get the teachers car in and out of there. But I pushed through and did my best and attended a 9 month course at WyoTech in Laramie Wyoming. It was 6 months of basic automotive, everything about a car was gone over. Then the last three months was a high performance engines and chassis fabrication class. I really loved all of it. A few months after college I got the job for turning wrenches on the trucks. There’s only one crew person for each truck. It’s not like Nascar where there’s several, there’s one. So there’s a lot on your plate at once.

What about your work satisfies you as a person?
Knowing that were putting on a show for thousands of people is amazing. They didn’t have to spend their time or money to come see us, but they did. The whole show is a huge adrenaline rush. Getting to travel the world is incredible. And basically just getting to live out my dream feels pretty awesome

What kind of music do you prefer to jam in the shop? (Rihanna or TOOL?)
Oh man, I listen to everything! Korn will be on one minute and New Kids on the Block next. No joke! It’s all about the mood I’m in. Sometimes its mostly country and others it’s more hip-hop-ish, and then there is the occasional Lil John to metal to Elvis. My Ipod is all over the place!

Your business is obviously VERY male dominated. How do you handle yourself with all the other men around?
I grew up with guys. I’ve always had more guy friends then girls. Girls are tough. Some men are very supportive and think its great to see women out there and genuinely want you to succeed. And others, well you just have to take their negativity and turn it into motivation. Have the “yeah well watch this attitude”. Let it all go in one ear and out the other. You’ve got to have thick skin, they can be really hard on you.

Tell us about your family.
I am super close to my family. Not just with my parents and two younger brothers, but my aunts, uncles, grandparents and cousins. I have a ridiculously large family with my dad being one of ten, mom from thirteen, and my step dad from three. And all sides of the family are close, everyone still gets together for holidays and little family functions. Which is great, you don’t see that much anymore.

You have definitely traveled the country. Other than “home,” where is your favorite place you’ve been to in the U.S.?
U.S wise I’d probably say Florida. I love the weather and there’s so much to do. Outside the states, probably Germany. It’s so beautiful over there!

What are your personal and professional goals in your industry?
Mostly just to be a successful driver and get a couple world championships under the belt. I would also love to open up a shop. Like a Hooters of oil changing.

Who are your idols? Why?
I would have to say Pink. Not only do I love her music, but she tells it like it is, good or bad. She’s just an all around bad ass chick

What is the best advice you’ve gotten in your business?
To stay true to myself. I know it sounds so cliche but in all honesty it can be hard to stay grounded and yourself in a business like this and not get wrapped up in the whirlwind.

Two weeks after departing from my project in Vegas, Vegas came to us here in Chicago. We had been setting up two Fight Chix parties involving the lovely and talented Arianny Celeste. I must warn that when you combine Arianny, Ms. RaRa, Fight Chix and any destination, that’s a recipe for just plain AWESOME!

Our kick off to the weekend started on Thursday January 26th where we had a calendar signing at The Lodge at Four Lakes in Lisle. The bar was pleasantly filled with fans of Arianny, UFC and Fight Chix. With some traveling delays, everything went accordingly. The general opinion from the audience was, “wow, Arianny is really here,” and, “wow, she’s even more beautiful in person and so cool.” Arianny even got up to stretch and danced a little bit with Elisabeth and Ms. RaRa, the women of Fight Chix. I was able to walk the room, press palms, chat with people and get a real opinion from everyone. I was happy with the outcome and it was a nice smooth transition to the madness that was about to take place Friday night.

Speaking of Friday night, we booked our 2nd party at Proof Chicago which was nothing short of a great time. We headed to dinner at Macellowhich is a very nice Italian restraint located in the meat-packing area of downtown Chicago. I must say I was thoroughly impressed with not only their quality of food, but their service. Our waiter was a charismatic man from Sardinia who magically made everything sound delicious and boy was it. The portions were perfect, taste was spot on and the prices were quite reasonable with the going rate of a downtown bistro. I indulged in the seafood pasta which was capped off with my traditional, “Jamo, neat, rocks glass.” I highly recommend visiting this establishment, but also recommend making reservations to be safe. Ask for the manager Angela. Our next stop was a private party at the Proof Penthouse orchestrated by our friend and club host, Anthony, who did an excellent job in organizing the event. I must also tip my hat to Proof’s number one bartender, Blake, that man knows how to pour Jameson. This is where the meet-and-greet took place along with another calendar signing and some standard mingling. With that all said and done, on to the VIP downstairs! Our troops landed safely in a good sized location surrounded by a very cool security staff, dedicated bottle host and a management team that was catering to our every needs. The Goose started flowing, the music started kicking and the legs started moving. In the midst of my million conversations with everyone from Jeff “Big Frog,” to Tony Jimenez from MicroTech, I noticed an entire group of the MMA world having the time of their lives. I was often greeted by randoms walking by asking what was going on up there because our energy level was so bold and inviting. I couldn’t bring myself to REALLY get into, so a simple, “It’s a UFC pre party with some great people,” was my consistent answer. This only left more to the imagination of the walker-bys. Ms. RaRa, Elisabeth, Arianny knew how to tear up the VIP dance floor. I think jaws dropped from Rush and Division all the way to Hyde Park. Those three girls lit up the place anytime one of their songs came on. As for myself, a few more Jameson’s later and I decided to breakout my old school moves with the one and only, the California Kid himself, Urijah Faber. It was a battle of the regions, a battle royale, a battle for the belt. This ultimately turned into a booty shaking contest in which we decided not to battle, but to embrace our booty-shaking skills. This was preformed, documented and perfected. Hats off Mr. Faber, you did well in Chicago! As the night when on, the Goose was poured, the moves were perfected and the night was closing, it was time to call it a night. A late night eating sesh was preformed with my, “hillbilly chopsticks,” and that is that my friends, Lights OUT!

Saturday was UFC night in Chicago. With some other things that had come up, we personally were not able to attend the fights. But we did make it to Lou Malnati’s in Chicago off of Wells to meet up with the UFC crew. There is no better pizza on this planet that a Chicago style deep dish pizza, preferably from Lou Malnati’s. You can take your thin-crust cardboard and blanketed ketchup back to Chuck E Cheese, because we know how to do it in this town! (Stepping off soapbox, back into writer’s chair.) I was called a young man by one of the UFC Lawyers which I thought would have been the highlight of dinner for me personally, but it wasn’t. A conversation including some ring card girls and the rest of the table provoked me to pull the ole throat-clearing, “let me check my palm pilot, YES I am available on that day in April,” move in which I think I MAY have perfected! Dinner came to a close and we headed to the main bar to hang out and chat. We scooted up to the bar and the bartender Dave may have been in shock. After having a 10 minute conversation with him I found out that this guy was an old school UFC fan, before UFC and MMA in general became trendy. He knew his stuff, fighters, fights and so on. He politely asked for a picture with Arianny and Chandella and of course they cordially accepted the request. We then hopped off to Hard Rock Hotel which was a mess of drunk twenty-something’s and UUFC fans chilling in the lobby area waiting for their favorites for pictures, autographs and flesh-pushing. Jake and I hung out in the lobby mingling with our friends in town while the girls stayed upstairs to chat it up. It was already late and the hotel bar was closing down but not before Jon Jones made a late night entrance to take the crowd from drunk and sleepy to wicked out on, “Holy sh*t JON JONES”

The next few days I did some researching on various social media sites, news sites, tuned into the TV shows and the general consensus was that UFC in Chicago was an absolute success. Everyone from your average UFC fan to Dana White had an exceptional time here in Chicago. This is pure evidence that Chicago has more UFC fights to come and we as a city know how to entertain our guests from other cities. “The city by the Lake,” thanks you!

If I had to sum up this entire story in one word without continuing, it would be, “success.” However, I will not do that to you. I am going to tell you about my 3 month project I endured in beautiful Las Vegas as the Brand Ambassador for Fight Chix. So where do I begin? From the start!

I relocated from Chicago to Vegas in October on what was an open-ended project that was quite the experience to say the least. Rubbing shoulders and partying with celebrities, fighters, models, writers, managers, club owners, billionaires and so on. I’ve got to say this was a HUGE breakthrough for us. This has been a project in the making for a good four years when Team Fight Chix began frequenting Vegas. My ultimate goal was to promote, market and blanket the streets with FIGHT CHIX. I covered almost the entire strip with, “shaking hands and kissing babies,” went to local events to sell merch and promote for the company, worked with local gyms, spoke with executives of the newspapers and even laid the groundwork for some eventual big events in the future. Every time I walked out of my apartment I had a stack of business cards, a Fight Chix jacket, a rocking attitude and a smile on my face. Presenting myself to people with confidence and charisma was the key and it went a long way. In just 3 months I rocked that town. Coming from a big suburb of The Windy City with an enormous vicinity, it felt like I was shooting fish in a barrel. But it was the experience that made it all worth it, the journey.

I went to the MMA Awards which I wrote about in a previous story, took a road trip to Scottsdale to help re-open a gym, free tickets to TOOL and Puscifer which was through my networking efforts, comped bottle service at virtually every club, steaks at Mastro’s and StripSteak and I even ditched the strip for a few hours to visit Valley of Fire. When I landed in town my expectations were an open book and my main goal was simply to PROMOTE. I don’t mean flick cards and hand them to tourists, I mean interact with people, talk to them, tell them about our company, our message and where we stand in the MMA industry. And that I did.

The one weekend I can honestly say was a whirlwind of surprises was NYE weekend. I had a good friend Craig aka “AF1” stay with me for a few days and I must say, best houseguest on the planet. I let him stay there while I was still in Chicago for Christmas and the guy spot-cleaned my apartment; love them Air Force guys! Thursday we had a signing with our girl Arianny Celeste at The LV Fight Shop which was a huge success. If you are ever in Las Vegas, please visit them, they are the best MMA apparel store in that town. And to answer any questions in your head about Arianny, yes she is beautiful in person and a very sweet woman. She even went as far as to personally invite us to her party at ROK Vegas the following night. Later on that night we ended up at the MIX and met up with our friend Dan who is a very talented music engineer. After some bottle service up there he introduced us to his Aussie friend which turned into bizarre ramblings of only God knows what. I ended up partying with this guy and his crew until 7AM and later found out this Aussie is a producer out of Australia with some interesting ties. The things that were said were just bizarre humor and pretty much who can outdo the other.

Friday rolled around and we went to breakfast at Hash House A Go-Go OFF strip on Sahara. Magically, I became friends with the bartender and we gouged ourselves with their enormous portions and well above par taste. Nighttime approached and we hit up ROK Vegas which was nothing short of a KILL time. Singing, dancing, drinking and celebrating with the Team Fight Chix, Arianny and friends. And of course we partied VIP style accompanied with our own personal bodyguard who made Michael Oehr from “The Blind Side,” look like Rudy. Needless to say the rest of the night was memorable. Saturday we ate at our favorite Thai restraint, Krum Thai and I attempted to marry the daughter of the owners, her name is Am. If you are ever in Vegas, GO THERE, best Thai food you can feed yourself and reasonably priced. Night time came around and we all decided to go old-school and retro. We hit Slots-O-Fun and celebrated in a different fashion. The decision was easy; no one wanted to deal with the club scene that night. Sunday, the day of rest, was finally amongst us. We made it to Craig’s infamous, “proper English breakfast,” at Crown and Anchor which was equipped with bangers, no cheese on the egg-bacon-cheese sandwich and excellent house coffee. I believe our NYE weekend in Vegas was officially complete.

The one thing I took away from Vegas on this excursion is that it’s not what people think it is when you live there day-to-day. The strip is only so big and there is an entire town of hard-working people, living and building a life. The town is run by the gambling/hospitality industry which isn’t for everyone but it’s growing into more. A Mecca for MMA, the ultimate place for conventions/expos and a tourist destination for people 21 and up. Las Vegas is not for everyone but is a great place to taste at least once in your life. You may not find love in this place, but you WILL love it.

Fight Chix gets little surprises and get to meet some really cool people. We were excited to hear that Ottavia Busia-Bourdain, wife of Anthony Bourdain the man’s man host of the Layover and No Reservations, is a avid student of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and huge fan of MMA, and Fight Chix! Our Brand Ambassador, Trevor A Keveloh, was thrilled to bring you the following interview. Enjoy!

How and who got you interested in MMA and/or BJJ etc?

I started taking kickboxing classes 5 years ago as a way to get back into shape after the birth of my daughter. It became clear pretty quickly this was not going to be just an exercise regime for me. The classes I was taking weren’t challenging enough so hired a private instructor and started doing some serious training.
In September 2007 I watched my first live MMA event, it was an Elite XC fight, Gina Carano was on the card and I was very inspired by what she did that night. I had mostly done stand up and only played around on the ground a little until I enrolled at Renzo Gracie Academy a few months ago. Now Bjj is the part of my training I look forward to the most.

Have you considered pursuing it as a career? And if so, what would your “fight” name be?
No, I never considered that, I recognize my limits, but I’d like to compete as long as I can. My friends are jokingly suggesting Ottavia “Disastro” Bourdain

How did you first hear about Fight Chix?
A tweet from you guys! I checked out your website and loved it! Your t-shirts and fight gear are awesome.

What is your take on the UFC still unwilling to have women compete in the octagon?
I think it’s bullshit, but that said, I think we need a larger pool of high profile women fighters. As they have a steeper hill to climb, they need to be both technically good fighters and have the ability to grab attention.

You train at the Renzo Gracie Academy . How is it working with the best BJJ people in the business?
It’s amazing. Since day one everybody has been so welcoming. Renzo is definitely the nicest guy in the business. Igor Gracie is my professor, he’s tremendously skilled, incredibly patient, and a great person. I see him as a real role model. When Igor travels, Luciano Cristovam, who’s also awesome, trains me. I know I’m incredibly lucky, the academy is like my second home, it’s my happy place.

Since you are into MMA/BJJ obviously you are competitive. Do you train to compete or just for fun? What are your goals within the sport?
I’m training everyday as if I had a fight tomorrow. For the moment I want to do as many bjj competitions as I can, but the idea of taking an MMA fight is appealing.

What is some of your favorite workout music? Songs, musicians, etc?

It’s a pretty eclectic playlist: Foo Fighters, Blur, Smashing Pumpkins, Tokyo Police Club, We Were Promised Jetpacks, Rage Against The Machine, Vampire Weekend, Pearl Jam, MGMT.

When you go out to eat with Anthony, who picks the restaurant?

My husband chooses the restaurant, but there better be meat on the menu.

Who is your favorite MMA fighter (male and/or female) and why?
Jon Bones Jones. He’s the most entertaining fighter out there, he’s capable of anything, you never know what he’s going to do next. That’s exciting.

Women’s sports have come a long way and at a rapid pace in the past 15 years. Why do you think that is? Have you considered teaming up with other women in the MMA world to help build and promote it?
They haven’t come far enough. I’d love to help promote wmma and I’m looking for an opportunity to do just that.

There is a video of you choking a guy out in a restaurant. How did this come about or is it a new pilot episode you and Anthony are working on?

Haha! That’s my good friend Doug. He owns an ice cream shop. This past summer I worked as his “apprentice” to help him raise money for Doctors Without Borders, so when he publicly called me out on Time Out New York to wrestle him to support New York Cares I couldn’t say no. He clearly had no idea what he was getting into. It was all in good fun, but this is the perfect example of how a small woman with basic training can easily submit a big untrained dude.

Will you and Anthony take me out to eat and have drinks sometime? Just kidding.
Of course! As long as you are not a vegetarian!
