Wonder Woman: Charis Furgat

Introducing Charis Furgat. Charis graduated early from high school, loves her family and has a goal of one day competing in the UFC. She visited us the last 2 years at the Fit Expo in Chicago and has balanced school, training and more with artful grace. Get to know this exceptional young Fight Chix!

How long have you been training in martial arts?
Well I started off as a wrestler 6 years ago and roughly 1 and a half years ago, I made the transition into mma. My brother always used to watch mma on tv and I just thought to myself “I want to do that someday.”

How has martial arts built your self esteem and helped you in life?
Martial arts his help me to be confident and be myself. It’s taught me what hard work and dedication is and in order to be successful, you must put in time and effort.

Tell us how training and being in the gym effects you emotionally.
Training and being in the gym drives me to become a better person and a successful athlete. It also helps me strive  to become humble and confident, yet respectful.

Who do you look up to?
I look up to my mother mainly because she is a hard-working and independent individual who helps others but is strong-willed and shows supports me like no other. I also look up to Joanna Jedrzejczyk because she’s an undefeated Polish champion who works hard and backs up whatever she says.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years both in martial arts and in life?
I see myself in a cage fighting, hopefully in the UFC. In addition, I see myself in college studying psychiatry while taking care of my family.
FAVORITES:
Food: Steak and anything with coconuts.
Movie: Ouija.
Music: Wide variety, but mainly Nicki Minaj and Sleeping with Sirens.
TV Show: I don’t watch much tv, but I’d say either The Ultimate Fighter or Rupauls’s Drag Race
Hobby outside training: Shopping, playing with my dogs, and spending time with my mom.
Take us through a typical week or school, training etc.
Currently a senior in high school, but since I’m an early graduate, I’ll be graduating in December of 2016 and in January I plan on continuing with college. I train two to three times out of the week for mma at the gym but practice on my own at home. I lift weights around 4 days out of the week. Lastly, I work at a restaurant 4-5 days out of the week as a phone girl. When I’m not at school, work, or training, I try to be home to just relax and every once in a while hang out with some friends.
How did you hear about Fight Chix and what is your favorite item on the site?
I’ve seen the brand everywhere online and instantly loved it because of what it stands for. I really love the training tights! They are so extremely comfortable!Be sure to follow Charis on Instagram
