Hi Jen!
Thanks for taking time to answer a couple questions! Hope you had a good New Years!
How and when did MMAwives come about?
I came up with MMA Wives last summer. I just had things I wanted to say about being the wife of a Pro MMA Fighter, and I knew there lots of other wives and gf out there as well so I thought why not start a Blog about my life and a community for other woman who are going through similar situations. When this is your husbands full time job your life is very different from people that work regular 9-5 jobs. This career consumes pretty much all aspects of your life including your family – which effects us as wives.
What is a typical day for you?
If people saw a typical day of mine they would think I was a lunatic. I do everything around the house that needs to be done. I only work 2 days a week so I am grateful to be home with my 3 year old daughter but I never sit down, or watch day time tv i swear! We wake up make coffee, cook breakfast, plan lunch, plan dinner. I cook all day pretty much. We always cook all of our own food. We juice vegetables and fruit, also very time consuming. When Bart comes home on a break I’m usually making him lunch, washing training clothes. I’m also a massage therapist so when Bart’s in Camp, weekly massages also apply to my wifely duties. And on top of all this find time to Blog and run mmawives.com.PHEW!
What do you think is one of the hardest things about being an MMA wife?
The Hardest thing is all of the doubt. Never knowing if your husband is going to win or lose. Stability is minimal, you never know if your husband will get released from his contract following a fight. And then what? When this is your full time job, you run the risk of losing it just like any other job… then what? You just have to dust yourself off and find another one, well this isn’t so easy when you are a fighter for a living.
On your website you talk about a book that you’re writing, can you tell us more about that?
I am writing an mmawives handbook, and in the future a book about my experiences and my life story of what I’ve been through as an mma wife.
What do you think the transition from WEC to UFC will be like for Bart, you and your family?
This is a dream come true for our family. I think Bart matches up well with all of the lightweights in the UFC and I’m very excited. This is a great opportunity to get ahead and solidify our future financially.
How do you think Fight Chix has affected yourself, and other MMA wives?
I think Fight Chix is an inspiration for all woman, it helps them feel like they also matter, and they aren’t just pushed in the shadow and not recognized for being great.
What are your goals for the year 2011?
My Goals are to keep a positive attitude, write my handbook, and just try to be the best person I can be. I’m exploring some artistic avenues that I have buried deep, so just going with the flow this year, and trying to Not WORRY about everything, and understand that I can only control certain things.
